Due to the COVID-19 situation, and the Coronavirus mandated closures, the Irvine Police Department has changed their policy to not conduct Irvine DUI checkpoints for the time being.
The State of California and the County of Orange have also mandated minimizing contact with drivers and defendants, and have encouraged police departments to not put defendants in jail unless the most serious type of offenses warrant it.
No people are allowed to be held in Irvine City Jail, and everyone is to be processed through Orange County Jail in Santa Ana. A recommendation to halt breath testing for DUIs has been made, and bail has been reduced to zero for all misdemeanors and most felonies.
The mayor of Irvine, Christine Shea, has a message regarding Irvine closures as well, and new Irvine DUI developments, which you can view at: https://www.cityofirvine.org/news-media/news-article/mayor-shea-covid-19-community-update-april-21-2020
