Driving Under the Influence of Drugs Arrest in Irvine. On February 17th of this year (2016), Irvine Police Department announced via press release that they had arrested a suspect for driving under the influence of drugs (DUID) and other drug violations, and theft-related crimes. Jonathan Chen, 24, of Irvine, was arrested for multiple violations including possession of controlled substances for sale, identity theft, possession of a stolen firearm and driving under the influence of drugs.
At 7:00 p.m. on Valentine’s Day 2016, a patrolling Irvine Police officer observed a 2016 Dodge Challenger stopped in traffic and obstructing a turn-lane at Irvine Center Drive and Fontaine. The male driver was slumped over and passed out at the wheel. Officers contacted Chen and determined he was driving under the influence of drugs.
In a subsequent search of the suspect’s vehicle, Chen was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, which had been reported stolen in a residential burglary in Los Angeles County. The suspect was also found in possession of a scale and methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and various pills in salable quantities, which law enforcement use to support arrests and charges for possession for sale of drugs. He likely will need an Irvine Criminal Defense Lawyer, although the court records show that he received a public defender when he appeared in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
In addition to the Driving Under the Influence of Drugs Arrest in Irvine, it turned out that Chen’s vehicle in Irvine was a rental car that had been rented using a stolen credit card, and that may lead to additional charges.
Update: This Driving Under the Influence of Drugs Arrest in Irvine case was filed in OC Superior court in April, 2016, and because of his strike priors, is still pending as of July, 2017.
